COLDEST PLACE on Earth (-71°C, -96°F) Why people live here? | Oymyakon, Russia

I spent several days with the locals of a Russian village Oymyakon. Oymyakon is Russia's and World's coldest inhabited place, and I thought that the only thing people do there is survive and suffer from the Cold. I was very wrong. Welcome to Oymyakon, the COLDEST City in the WORLD!

Oymyakon is situated in Siberia, Russia. The settlement was started in the 1920's by reindeer herders who watered their reindeer in the thermal spring which gives the town its name, Oymyakon "Water that doesn't freeze". Around 500 people are living in Oymyakon but to be honest it's more about surviving than living. The average temperature in the colder months is -40 degrees Fahrenheit, there are only 3 warmer months, with temperatures averaging 50 degrees Fahrenheit and the record low was recorded in 1923 when temperatures dropped to -96. The houses don't have plumbing because the water would freeze in the pipes, so toilets are simple pits with a roof and door over them. The village has its own heating plant that burns coal none stop to heat water, which is then pumped through the village pipework. When outside, they have to keep their car's engine running, all the time, even when refilling at the gas station, if not, the fuel would freeze in seconds making it impossible to start again. They have a school, to which the kids have to go every day unless temperatures drop below -58f. Their diet is mainly meat because the ground is permanently frozen so no vegetables can be grown, this Permafrost also makes gravedigging a lengthy experience. first, they light a bonfire to defrost the ground, then dig down until the hit permafrost again, and then repeat. the process of digging a grave can take days. There is no cell phone coverage, but that's mainly because no one has made a cell phone that can work in such a cold climate. Even though it's the coldest town in the world and probably the hardest to live in, it is possibly the most beautiful landscape on the planet! Did you enjoy this video? subscribe for more! Most Dangerous Ways To School | OIMJAKON (Russia) | Free Documentary

Siberia. Endless vastness – arctic temperatures. Even farther East than Japan and 5 000 kilometres north of Vladivostok lies Yakutia, the coldest republic of Russia. Yakutsk is the capital of the Yakutia republic and is located about 5100 kilometres east of Moscow. In the midst of it: Oimjakon. With its 500 residents the coldest inhabited place on earth. This village lies in a mountain valley on the upper reaches of the banks of the Indgirka River. One of the major reasons for the freezing temperatures is the great distance from the Atlantic Ocean and the humidity that the Ocean provides to a major part of the Northern Hemisphere. Masses of mountains shield Siberia against the warm air from the west and south, while in the opposite direction, the door to the Artic stands wide open. Thus in the winter, cold masses of air expand into the Siberian landscape completely unrestricted. The average temperature in winter: Minus 40° Celsius. The children of the Siberian Oimjakon have the world`s coldest way to school. The extreme living conditions are completely normal for the residents of Oymyakon. This is also true for the Tariks family and their son Aljosha. He is 8 years old. The children of his age group are only excused from attending school on account of the cold at temperatures below minus 54° degrees. Even before his departure for school Aljosha feels the grim cold. Lacking running water the house also has no bathroom. So Aljosha alredy has to go outside – to the unheated outside earth closet in the garden. Sascha’s mother cooks tea. In order to do so, she must go to outside to the front of the house, which is made of wood- as all houses in Oymyakon. Due to the great temperature differences here, concrete walls would soon crack and be destroyed. In the short summers, it can get quite warm in Oymyakon. In front of the wooden house the ice blocks are stored. The next-door farmer had cut out of the frozen river for them. There is no running water in the Pole of Cold, with temperatures dropping to -65 degrees Celsius; no pipe work has a chance. Aljoshas mother puts the ice in the pot and cooks some tea for her son. Like every day, Aljosha must get ready to go to school. Like the majority of the other students, Sascha wears for the most part his traditional dress. The clothing prescribes to the onion-peel principle in order to protect the students from the Artic temperatures. His mother Irina has heated up the living room to 20° degrees. So when Aljosha opens the front door it is 70° degrees colder – every day life in Oimjakon. As soon as the children open the dormitory’s double doors, the icy cold brutally grabs hold of them. Within less than one second their nostrils become frozen. Unlike the students in other parts of the world, the children from Oymyakon are seldom playful but instead very concentrated on their way to school. With quick steps, they travel in groups, attempting to put the 2 kilometer route behind them as quickly as possible. There are no signs of snow ball fights. The don’t spend a second of time watching the cows, which are kept up to nine months of the year in their stalls, and are now coincidentally being lead out of the barn for a drink. Even though the cows are wearing some sort of special “bras” which protect their udders from freezing. Once in school building, Aljosha and the other students remove many of their layers of clothing, and get going with the school lessons. For the majority of them, a welcome diversion from the coldest inhabited town on the earth.

Please consider subscribing to support this channel. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM. ✨ Oymyakon is the coldest village in the world, and a place I had always wanted to visit for the longest time. But why Oymyakon? Why people would want to travel to the coldest place in the world? Because it's just fascinating. Like in Oymyakon is so different from anything we're ever been used to. The town of Oymyakon is located between two mountain ranges causing the wind to focus directly onto the town. As a result, Oymyakon sees the lowest average winter temperature in the world, outside of Antarctica. Since there is no permanent population in Antarctica, Oymyakon holds the record of being the coldest permanently inhabited settlement in the world. Hats off to Oymyakon! The lowest temperature ever recorded in Oymyakon was -71.2 °C, which is commemorated with a monument on the main (and only) square at the centre of the town of Oymyakon. That is, however, an unofficial reading. On 6 February 1933, a temperature of −67.7 °C (−89.9 °F) was recorded at Oymyakon's weather station - this was the coldest officially recorded temperature in the Northern Hemisphere. Only Antarctica has recorded lower official temperatures (the lowest being −89.2 °C (−128.6 °F), recorded at Vostok Station on 21 July 1983). The unofficial record cold temperature in Oymyakon is roughly 8°C warmer than the sublimation point of carbon dioxide.

COLDEST VILLAGE on the Earth in Oymyakon, Siberia 🥶

Why do people live in such an extreme climate and how do they survive? I spent several days with the locals of the Russian village Oymyakon in the Yakutia region. Let's see what I found out from the locals #russiatravel #russianwinter #coldestcity

Visiting the COLDEST CITY in the World (-71°C, -96°F) YAKUTSK / YAKUTIA

If you want to give me budget support ► 🤍 I'm in the coldest city on the planet; Yakutsk, which is in Yakutia / Siberia / Russia. The lowest air temperature ever recorded here is -96°F (-71°C) (SECOND VIDEO) 8 Crazy Ice Experiments at -55°C, -67°F 🤍 The coldest town is Oymyakon, which is also in Yakutia, Siberia. This region is also called Sakha Republic and it is affiliated to Russia. Watch my other videos: KiIIed for Bringing Bad Luck: Secret Albino Village in Africa (Too White to Live) 🤍 94 Year Old Blind Man Wants To See for the First Time 🤍 Attending a Ritual in Tanzania 🤍 Watch my entire Yakutsk videos: 🤍 You might have heard that Minnesota, Michigan or North Dakota are very cold in the Winter. But Yakutsk is a whole different story. This is not Alaska too. Lately, I’ve been watching solo camping in winter videos and I encourage Xander Budnick, Mav, Steve Wallis, Wargeh Bushcraft, Upnorthof60, Asbjorn Olsen-Berg Bushcraft channels to come to Yakutsk in Winter and make a camping survival video. Here are the links to my favorites: 3 Days Solo Winter Camping - deep snow, no tent, below -20°C 🤍 Truck Camping in -19 degrees 🤍 Ice Camping for the Biggest Trout of my Life 🤍 U-Haul Stealth Camping In -35 Degrees 🤍 Tent Inside Tent Winter Camping 🤍 But they should be aware of blizzards, snow storms and heavy rains. Winter camping is hard here, even harder than the cold weather of Ontario, Canada. A night camping in the middle of a blizzard is no joke, so does ice camping. Luckily there are a lot of fish to catch in extreme cold temperatures. Flights from Los Angeles to Yakutsk is about 30 hours and a one way ticket costs around 1000 American Dollars. There were no flights from New York City in the Winter. Fortunately, hotel fares were cheap and affordable in Siberia. Second episode of Rediscovery will be coming very soon. This Is the Coldest Permanently Inhabited Place on Earth The remote village with a population of 500 people is in the corner of Siberia. Winter temperatures in Oymyakon, Russia, average - 56 °C to - 60°C. In the year 1926, Russian scientist Sergey Obrychev registered the lowest temperature −71.2 °C (−96.2 °F) recorded at Oymyakon’s weather station. Since then, it has become the lowest recorded temperature for any permanently inhabited location on Earth. With the bitterly cold temperature, cars have to be left running so the mechanics don’t freeze up, the school only get a day off if the temperature dips below -52°C, there is no indoor plumbing, so most of Oymyakon’s homes have outdoor toilets, pen ink freezes, glasses freezing to people’s faces, mobile phone service is non-existent, It takes two or three days to dig a grave in frozen ground, taking photographs is a challenge that must be completed quickly before the camera and lens freeze and cracked if left it for an extended period of time. People in Oymyakon don’t often eat many vegetables and fruits because due to the harsh climate not many types of fruits or vegetables can grow there, but there are some types of berries, leaf plants, and root vegetables that grow in nature. Their diets consist mainly of reindeer meat, horse meat, fish, and milk from their farm animals. 🤍 🤍 🤍 On the way to Oymyakon Music : Wonder by Hazy 🤍 Music provided by 🤍 Cinematic Drone Light Rock 🤍 Instagram: 🤍 Spotify: 🤍 _ Fishing Music : Artist: Joey Pecoraro Title: Russian Dance Free Download: 🤍 _ Horse Music : Instagram: 🤍 Spotify: 🤍 - Homestay Music : 🤍

Water freezes INSTANTLY. Everyday life in the coldest place on Earth, Oymyakon

I spent a week in #Oymyakon, a remote town in Russia’s Siberia which is deemed to be the world's coldest inhabited place. The lowest recorded temperature here was -72°C or -96°F. Luckily for us, when we got to Oymyakon it was only… -51°C or -60°F and I never felt THAT cold in my entire life! Watch how people brave one of the world’s most frigid and inhospitable environments as we embark on a journey to Oymyakon – the coldest place on our planet where people live all year round. In Part 3 I continue to explore Oymyakon and hook up with Alexander, a badass local man, who takes me ice-swimming at -49°C or -56°F. I also interview a local weatherman whose face gets frostbitten right as we speak outside his weather station.

#geografia #economia #EconoSimples

8 Crazy Experiments at -55°C, -67°F (The coldest city in the World: Yakutsk)

If you want to give me budget support ► 🤍 Frozen eggs and noodles, wet clothes, bowling with water balloons... I visited the coldest city on the planet; Yakutsk. Here are 8 amazing ice experiments and ice tricks from Yakutsk / Yakutia, at -55°C temperature. Extreme cold weather experiments we made were amazing. Life in Oymyakon Russia | The Coldest Place On Earth

The living place of roughly 500 people, Oymyakon, Russia is experiencing the most brutal winter right now. The secluded village in Russia at -58 degrees Fahrenheit is the coldest place on earth. The recent spike of the drop in this region hit -80° Fahrenheit recently, which was so cold that the village’s digital thermometer broke down. The village has been an object of curiosity as to its demand for this freezing cold and its tough and resilient residents who withstand it year after year, has grown. It is situated about 750 meters above sea level and the lonely village has only one shop and one school that shut down in case the temperatures dip below -60 Fahrenheit. In the secluded village, it’s a second nature to brace this arctic cold and endure it year on year. Yakutians, also what the people living in Oymyakon are called locally, have managed to come up with a variety of spectacular tricks to survive in this harsh weather and they are given below, Most of the Yakutians who belong to the place use outhouses for their daily deeds as the indoor plumbing freezes during the time of harsh winter and there is absolutely no water supply available through traditional methods. Cars are kept in well-heated garages and have a layer of protection to them. And if they leave them outside for any reason to go and get things, they are left running all the time, sometimes even through the night so that the engine does not seize. It should not come as a surprise but Crops do not grow on this frozen land, so the Yakutians have a majorly carnivorous diet that they follow to keep themselves warm and energetic during this season to brace for the harsh chillness. The foods that are consumed are including but not limited to raw flesh, reindeer meat, long-sliced frozen fish freshly caught, frozen horse liver, and ice cubes of horse blood with macaroni. While we now know Oymyakon is the coldest inhabited place on earth, it’s not as cold and freezing as the spot of land at the bottom of the world in Antarctica, where the temperatures dip as low as -133 degrees Fahrenheit on a regular day. This remote village of Oymyakon in Russia is closer to the Arctic Circle than it is to the nearest city. Now that is an interesting phenomenon to be a part of. A monument in the town square memorializes and idolizes the day in 1924 when the temperature fell to a record-breaking 96 degrees below zero Fahrenheit. Oymyakon is also situated north of the Sea of Okhotsk and is very remote to the civilization of much more inhabited places. #oymyakon #cold #coldest #lowtemperature Music used: 🤍 Disclaimer: We have tried our best for making our video error-free.This is for educational and entertainment purpose only. Oymyakon | The Coldest City In The World | Here’s What Life Looks Like In Oymyakon

Oymyakon. The Coldest City In The World. Here’s What Life Looks Like In Oymyakon Located near the Arctic Circle, the city of Oymyakon, Russia is the coldest inhabited place on Earth. Winter temperatures average around -58°F — and only 500 residents brave the chill. A Communist-era sign, which reads "Oymyakon, The Pole of Cold," marks the record-breaking low of -96.16°F in 1924. Working two weeks on and two weeks off, employees of 24-hour gas stations near Oymyakon are vital to ensure that the economy can keep running despite inclement conditions. The icy forests of Oymyakon. Due to the difficulty of setting up plumbing in the region, most bathrooms are pit latrines out on the street. Retired school teacher Alexander Platonov bundles up to make a dash to the toilet. An example of an outdoor toilet on the road to Oymyakon. Oymyakon has but one shop to provide supplies to the remote and isolated community. A man runs into Oymyakon's only store. A man uses a torch to thaw the driveshaft of his frozen truck. A herd of horses in the cold. A man warms himself by a fire. A snow-covered helicopter. Yakut people lined up in traditional outfits. Yakut women. Café Cuba, a small teahouse that serves reindeer soup and hot tea to visitors en route to Oymyakon. It isn't just people who have to deal with the cold. A dog curls up to keep warm outside of Café Cuba. To keep his cows from freezing, farmer Nicholai Petrovich has a highly insulated stable that they sleep in. The enduring Yakut horse can live under the open sky at frigid temperatures. Incredibly resourceful, it finds food by digging out frozen grass from underneath the snow with its hooves. Oymyakon’s heating plant runs around the clock with an ever-present plume of smoke rising into the winter sky. Early each day, this tractor is used to supply new coal to the plant and remove the burnt cinder from the previous day. Russia’s Kolyma Highway, aka the "Road of Bones," was constructed with gulag prison labor. It can be found between Oymyakon and its nearest city, Yakutsk. It can take about two days to drive from Oymyakon to Yakutsk. Here in Yakutsk, local women stand amidst the thick fog in the city center. This fog is created by cars, people, and steam from factories. Ice-covered houses like this one are common sights in the middle of Yakutsk. There is no need for refrigeration at the public market. The frigid air ensures that the fish and the rabbit stay frozen until they can be sold. Ice-coated statues of World War II soldiers. A swirl of steam and freezing mist surrounds a woman as she enters Preobrazhensky Cathedral, the largest in Yakutsk. The view from just outside the world's coldest city. Everyday Life In The World's Coldest City. Oymyakon's heating plant runs around the clock with an ever-present plume of smoke rising into the winter sky. Known as "The Pole of Cold," Oymyakon is the coldest populated region on Earth and claims only 500 full-time residents. Most of these residents are Indigenous people known as the Yakuts, but some ethnic Russians and Ukrainians also live in the area. During the Soviet era, the government convinced many laborers to move to the region by promising them high wages for working in a harsh climate. But when Chapple visited Oymyakon, he was struck by the emptiness in the town: "The streets were just empty. I had expected that they would be accustomed to the cold and there would be everyday life happening in the streets, but instead people were very wary of the cold." It's certainly understandable when you consider how dangerous the cold can be. For instance, if you were to walk outside naked on an average day in Oymyakon, it would take approximately one minute for you to freeze to death. It's no wonder why many of the people Chapple saw outside were rushing to get inside as soon as they could. There's just one store in Oymyakon, but there is also a post office, a bank, a gas station, and even a small airport. The town also has its own schools. Unlike other places around the world, these schools don't even consider closing unless the weather drops below -60°F. Dünya'nın En Soğuk Köyü - Donmuş At Kanı Yiyorlar - OYMYAKON

Orada yiyecek olarak donmuş at kanı yiyorlar. #yakutsk #oymyakon #dünyanınensoğukyeri #-72c Metehan mavi instagram adresi 🤍 You’re free to use this song in any of your YouTube videos, but you MUST include the following in your video description

Would you dare do this? (the COLDEST VILLAGE in Russia - Oymyakon)

I spent several days with the locals of a Russian village Oymyakon. Oymyakon is Russia's and World's coldest inhabited place, and I thought that the only thing people do there is survive and suffer from the Cold. I was very wrong - there's so much to do and experience! Oymyakon (Оймякон) is a rural locality in Oymyakonsky District of the Sakha Republic, Russia, located in the Yana-Oymyakon Highlands, along the Indigirka River, 30 km northwest of Tomtor on the Kolyma Highway. By winter average temperatures, it is the coldest permanently inhabited settlement on Earth. It is named after the Oymyakon River, whose name reportedly comes from the Even word kheium, meaning "unfrozen water; place where fish spend the winter".
