Can We Clone The Doctor? This is going to be tough… There are (as the bottle says) 23 flavours in Dr Pepper; but what are they? The internet is full of theories, and lists; some of them make sense and some of them don’t. I have to admit - most of the lists contain ‘flavours’ that are compound flavours like ‘cola’ and ‘Root Beer’ so I don’t know how much I trust them. There is also a formula book that surfaced from the Old Corner Drugstore in Waco Texas where Dr Pepper was invented. It contains a formula for ‘Dr Peppers Pepsin Bitters’ - but the handwriting is is scribbled that no-one can agree what it says. Here is our first on-camera attempt: Ingredients: 1L (4 cups) water 175g dried prunes 130g raspberries 2 vanilla beans, split 15g dry wintergreen leaves 8g whole cloves 2g peppercorns 20g chopped ginger 2.5g ground nutmeg 2g (around 10 pods) cardamom 6g cinnamon stick 4 juniper berries 3g cut and sifted wild cherry bark 3g liquorice bark 3g sarsaparilla 2g cut and sifted gentian root 800g sugar 10g citric acid 15 mL molasses 30 mL pure almond extract 10 mL cherry extract 5 mL lemon extract 5 mL orange extract 2 mL star anise extract Method: In a saucepan, combine the water, fruit, spices, and herbs. Bring to a boil and then remove from the heat and add the cherry bark, liquorice bark, sarsaparilla, and gentian root. Let steep for 30 to 45 minutes. Strain out the solid ingredients and return the water to the saucepan. Add the sugar, citric acid and molasses and heat until dissolved. Remove the syrup from the heat. Stir in the extracts. 45mL of syrup mixed into 350 mL of soda water is a great place to start - you can adjust based on your tastes. It's a great way to cook a bird to get succulent and juicy chicken. Dr Pepper Cake Recipe - Glen And Friends Cooking - How To Make Dr Pepper Cake This is the easiest Dr Pepper chocolate cake recipe you'll ever make. The dense, moist, rich, chocolate flavour is accompanied by a simple chocolate icing. We based this Dr. Pepper cake recipe on our buttermilk chocolate cake recipe, and it's a real winner. We used Dr. Pepper in this cake, but any soda pop could be used in this soda pop cake recipe. Ingredients: 250 mL (1 cup) Dr Pepper / Coke / Pepsi / Root Beer 250 mL (1 cup) white sugar 125 mL (½ cup) brown sugar 115g (4 ounces) bittersweet chocolate 70% 115g (125 mL / ½ cup) butter 500 mL (280g / 2 cups) all-purpose flour 10 mL (2 tsp) baking soda 5 mL (1 tsp) baking powder 5 mL (1 tsp) coarse salt 250 mL (1 cup) buttermilk 2 eggs 5 mL (1 tsp) pure vanilla extract 15 mL (1 Tbsp) chocolate liqueur (optional) Icing: 115g (4 ounces) bittersweet chocolate 70% 250 mL (1 cup) butter Pinch salt 60 mL (¼ cup) Dr Pepper 5 mL (1 tsp) pure vanilla extract 15 mL (1 Tbsp) chocolate liqueur (Optional) 4 cups powdered sugar - approximate Method: Preheat the oven to 190ºC (375°F). Put the pop, sugars, chocolate, and butter in a saucepan. Stir over medium heat until fully melted and blended. Remove from the heat and let cool slightly. Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. In a small bowl, stir together the buttermilk, vanilla, and chocolate liqueur. Grease, flour and line 2 - 9" cake pans with parchment. Whisk the milk mixture and eggs into the slightly cooled chocolate mixture. Whisk in the dry ingredients, in 2-3 additions. Divide the batter between the pans and bake about 30 to 35 minutes, or until a tester comes out clean. Let the cakes cool completely, then remove from the pans and cool on a rack. Meanwhile, make the icing. Using your preferred method - melt the chocolate, then let cool almost to room temperature. Cream the butter, and add in about ¼ of the icing sugar. This Dr Pepper Pulled Pork is sweet, saucy, tender, juicy and all round DELICIOUS! Chris x Dr Pepper pulled Pork | Serves ~10 FULL RECIPE POST: 🤍 INGREDIENTS Pulled Pork 3-4lb / 1.5-2kg Pork Shoulder (see notes) 1x 12oz / 330ml can of Dr Pepper (not diet!) 1 medium Onion, sliced 2 tsp EACH: Paprika, Salt 1 tsp EACH: Garlic Powder, Black Pepper Dr Pepper BBQ Sauce 1x 12oz / 330ml can of Dr Pepper (not diet!) 1 cup / 240g Ketchup 1/4 cup EACH: Dark Brown Sugar, Apple Cider Vinegar 2 tbsp EACH: Worcestershire Sauce, Tomato Paste (Tomato Puree in UK) 2 tsp Smoked Paprika 1 tsp Mustard Powder 1/2 tsp EACH: Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Salt, Black Pepper 1/2 tsp Hot Sauce, or to taste (optional) METHOD Prep Pork: Coat the pork all over in seasoning. Use your hands to rub the seasoning into the meat. Cook Pork: Add onion slices to the bottom of a slow cooker then pour in half a can of Dr Pepper. Add pork on top then pour over the rest of the Dr Pepper. Pop the lid on and slow cook on low for 10 hours. BBQ Sauce: Add all of the ingredients to a pot/deep pan and whisk to combine. Bring to a gentle simmer and stir occasionally until thickened (approx 20-30mins). It will thicken, just keep gently simmering and stirring. Don't crank up the heat or it'll burn the sugar. Taste for seasoning and adjust accordingly (i.e. more sugar for sweeter, more hot sauce for spicier etc). Shred: Use tongs to remove pork from slow cooker and add to a large curved tray. Add the onions and a splash of the cooking juice for extra flavour (optional). Roughly shred with two forks. Don't over shred in the first instance or it'll go tough and dry. Sauce: Pour over BBQ sauce then use tongs to combine, shredding a little more if needed. Serve: Add to burger buns with coleslaw, on top of mac and cheese or in nachos (see notes).
