Jeff was raised in a good loving Catholic home. When he was 18, his girl friend led him to a personal relationship with Christ. After high school he had a rift from his father and the Church and when to Bible College. Upon graduation, he work in radio but later was ordained as a Protestant minister. After pastoring for about 8 years, Jeff started seeing passages in the Bible that sounded Catholic, on such topics as Apostolic Authority and the Word of God as being Scripture and also Tradition, as well as the Eucharist. When Jeff saw St. John Paul II, on TV, at World Youth Day, in Denver in 1993, he realized that that was his Father and his family and he must return Home to the Catholic Church. Though raised Catholic, Jeff Cavins didn't really "get" the idea of the Holy Spirit until an experience at a Catholic Charismatic conference when he was 18. In his youthful zeal, he decided that the Church he'd grown up in was stifling the Holy Spirit, so he started going to the Assemblies of God, and eventually became a nondenominational pastor. Along the way, his understanding of the Holy Spirit matured, and he eventually came to appreciate the Holy Spirit as not just someone who empowered him personally, but who was perpetually at work in Scripture, tradition, the magisterium and the lives of the saints.
