You've picked up your first whetstone, watched 15 different sharpening videos, started sharpening the knife, and have dreams of finally showing that smug paper who's boss, except when you go to slice, it happens again. The paper rips and it feels like your knife is worse off than before. This is a common tale for many beginning freehand sharpeners, so in this video, I'm going to identify 4 sharpening mistakes most beginner's make, and then give you a technique for remedying those. Curb your dull knives. Please. But also, if you don't want to sharpen your knife, that's okay too. I'm just giving you the option and ability to take your knife from dull to sharper than a razor using a whetstone. ;) Also *DISCLAIMER*: This technique is something that I learned as a beginner while working in restaurants. It was really only intended to get newbies started on the idea of using a whetstone. This video is NOT intended to be a professional all inclusive knife video. It's simply supposed to be a fun/entertaining video to get people interested in learning about knife sharpening. I suggest doing your own research and finding your own way to sharpen a knife after getting started off this guide! The one thing you must do when knife sharpening is form, and remove the burr. In this video I show you, up close, what the burr looks like. I also show what the burr looks like after minimizing on a sharpening stone, as well as after stropping. Fully removing the burr is ESSENTIAL for the sharpest knife possible. And if done properly, you can achieve very sharp edges even with coarse grits. The knife sharpening stone used in this video is a prototype stone made by us and is about 500 grit. We hope to have a range of these available soon. The strop and compound can be found on my website link below. Thanks so much! I made the worlds's sharpest kitchen knife, It's literally razor sharp lol, I had this idea for a while, I love replicable utility blade knifes and how cheap it is to have a fresh new sharp blade, this concept knife takes it up another whole level, I thought it would be awesome to make for a video and I think it came out really great, it works better then I even imagined, I don't really enjoy sharpening knifes so with this you can have an entire new 3 razor sharp blades for only 58¢ without sharpening anything (97¢ for 5 pack blades, 19¢ per blade), only down side is carbon steel blades corrode easily and the knife would be harder to clean then a normal kitchen knife, but I really like the idea and If you also like it, I am looking to have some of these kitchen knifes made on a CNC machine so that you could purchase one if you want, I will update when they are available so be sure to subscribe and turn notifications on, also leave a comment if you are interested in buying one so that I know if people actually want them and I can reply when available. For years I've been sharpening my knives on a stone with good enough results. My knives are tools and I never fussed too much with polished edges or razor sharp finishes. I have used just about every sharpener known to man with pretty good accuracy but never bit the bullet on one (mainly because I had free unlimited access to all the sharpeners for years). I'm a bit of a Luddite so for certain things my motto is if it's not broke don't fix it. My buddies over at Work Sharp sent me over their new Precision Adjust Elite sharpener to check out. They didn't send it for me to make a video, or to shill anything to you guys, they literally just sent it for me to check out which was really nice of them. I find that I learn a lot about a thing the very first time I run through it so I thought it would be fun to bring you guys along as I figured out this new sharpener! Not only did I get a razor sharp edge on my WE Banter I also got a bit of that 'polished' look! The Precision Adjust Elite turned out to be easy, intuitive, and (after some figuring out) a very effective system for excellent knife sharpening. I'm definitely not a knife sharpening expert and I hope in this case that's a good thing as we both got to learn together. You Can Get Your Own Precision Adjust Elite Here. Bang for your buck utility on this thing is amazing! I'm not making any money off this link but it helps my buddies at Work Sharp out and it was super rad of them to send one over to me. 🤍 Follow along here for more adventures: 🤍

Sharpening a kitchen knife sharpening on my Tormek T-8, with the tomato and paper trick! Here I take another kitchen knife and give it some really nasty beatings.. It's 10 years old and has been discarded many years ago. So why not?! Filming this took 1-2 hours but this can easily be done in about 5-10 minutes.. Or less if you stick with the SG-250 stone. There's a lot of comments about sharpening knives on the Tormek T8 vs. flat stones. Some people prefer flat stones over a Tormek and of course.. I would do the same, if you only need to sharpen a couple of knives or one. But when you sharpen 20, 50 or even 100 at the time, this machine can't be beaten by flat stones. I use this for almost all my sharpening: axes, knives, gouges, turning tools etc. And of course for customers: scissors, kitchenknives etc. ASMR for the people! 🤍 🤍

Master Sushi Chef Hiro Terada shows you how he sharpens his Kikuichi knife with a 1000 grit Masahiro whetstone, and then further polishes his knife with a Kikuichi 6000 grit wet stone. Key things to remember are: Soak the stone for at least 24 hours prior to sharpening; this assists the water lubrication to keep the knife from scratching against a harsh surface and damaging the blade. Always use equal pressure throughout the blade at a 15 degree angle. Always use the complete surface of the stone in order to keep the stone smooth and equally worn.
