Nikon has recently released the latest firmware update for its popular Z5 mirrorless camera, version 1.4. This update brings several new features and improvements to the camera's performance, making it an exciting upgrade for Nikon enthusiasts. One of the key improvements in firmware 1.4 is enhanced eye-detection autofocus, which is now available in the camera's wide-area AF mode. This means that the camera can now detect and focus on subjects' eyes even when they are not in the center of the frame, making it easier to capture sharp portraits and candid shots. The update also improves the camera's autofocus performance in low-light situations, with enhanced detection of human and animal subjects. One of the questions I get asked more than another is how big you can print a certain megapixel camera. So in this video I took an entry level full frame 24MP camera with kit lens and pitted it against a 45MP full frame with top of the range lens. The results are surprising. In my opinion, that makes it the first mirrorless camera really ready to take on professional work, and the first contender against the might Sony a7 III (🤍 It has 24 megapixels, FHD 🤍 60 FPS or 4k 🤍 30 FPS with a 1.7X crop. It only shoots 4.5 frames per second, which is good enough for portraits and weddings, but probably eliminates it from all but the most casual sports and wildlife photography. I also compare it against the Canon EOS RP (🤍 a $900 full-frame camera that is similar in many ways but lacks the dual memory card slots. The most likely competitors are the Nikon Z6 (🤍 which has a similar price, but is now a couple of years old and also only has a single card slot. Finally, I recommend many users consider a used Nikon D750 (about $750 at 🤍 because it offers similar image quality and dual card slots at a much lower price - but it lacks mirrorless capabilities like Nikon Z-lens support and eye-detect autofocus.
